Come join us for a night of Weird & Wonderful beers on Wednesday 21 November from 6:30pm, hosted by Young Henrys (and Beeries winner) very own colourful personality Kris Kempnich, expertly matched with a sensory dining experience by Osbourne Hotel Head Chef Ben King.
Start with Young Henrys’ Night Sweats Moonshine, created and distilled locally at Young Henrys Newtown; the mash is made up of malt and rye with a hint of chocolate malt. Get those tastebuds buzzing with Young Henrys’ bespoke spiced maple spirit – the ‘Wayne Regretsky’ maple spirit, expertly matched with maple glazed pork belly, shadows of blue mille-feuille, salted caramelised pear and pork jus. The hero of the night will be the Young Henrys & Afends Hemp beer, a collaboration between two organisations built on the same values and ethos, supporting sustainability, the environment and the creation of eco-friendly products. With hemp incorporated in food, clothing and now beer, the Young Henrys & Afends Hemp IPA is a nod to the rise of the hemp industry and the versatility of this incredible plant. The Hemp IPA is a big sticky number with a dank aroma of citrus, tropical and stone fruits with some spice berry. Biscuit and toasted bread flavours bring balance to the resinous vegetal notes from hemp oil and hop hash. A high-wire act, on the edge but totally in control, delivering flavour and sessionability. This beer will be matched with spiced lamb backstrap, Aussie donut peach, goats chèvre, heirloom tomato, soft herbs, rosemary hemp pesto. It wouldn’t be a Young Henrys dinner without the Newtowner Australian Pale Ale – a nod to Young Henrys' home, community and inspiration; Newtown. With a trio of Australian hops, the Young Henrys Newtowner is a refreshing, well-balanced, golden beer with a dry finish that will go very well alongside Ben’s Cajun spiced Bug on blue corn doña cholita tortilla, black beans and charred corn salsa. Finishing the night is the Coral Sour Gose brewed by Young Henrys, which has a fruit forward aroma balanced in the body by the earthiness of native davidson plum and hibiscus. This will be paired alongside our dessert of the night – gooseberry panna cotta, almond tuile, toasted hemp seed crunch, and plum sorbet.
