Eastside Kitchen + Bar and Handpicked Wines have teamed up to bring you an exclusive tasting experience pairing a range of premium Australian and New Zealand Handpicked Pinot Noir with a curated duck degustation.
Executive chef Stanley Wong will give insights into all things duck – from farming to cooking, while Handpicked will guide guests through a Pinot journey. The evening will start at Handpicked Wines with canapes and an experiential blind wine tasting, followed by a sumptuous winter duck menu at Eastside Kitchen, paired perfectly with wine. |

Why Duck and Pinot? This is a classic food and wine pairing that you cannot beat. As duck is quite fatty, it’s best paired with a wine with some acidity. Being a lighter style of red wine, Pinot delivers much more freshness than heavier styles. The acidity cuts through the richness of the duck, and the fruit flavours of cherry and plum pair deliciously with the soft meat. Originating in Burgundy, France, Pinot Noir is a light-bodied style of red wine. Commonly exhibiting herbal and earthy tones, with soft red fruit flavours such as pomegranate and cherry, this thinned skinned grape is quite temperamental and relies heavily on the climate conditions of the area which it grows. In Australia and New Zealand, cool climate regions such as the Yarra Valley, Tasmania, Mornington Peninsula and Central Otago produce top quality pinot noir fruit. Combine that with some of the best winemakers in the country such as Handpicked’s Gary Baldwin and Peter Dillon, and you are left with a well balanced fruit driven style of wine with softly integrated oak and subtle cinnamon spice. |
