And on September 18, Martin Peston is opening up his personal vault to share seven award-winning Australian wines with you. For every course, we'll compare a premium Shiraz from both Victoria and South Australia. WHEN: Sunday 18 September 1pm to 4pm WHERE: Saint Crispin, 300 Smith Street, Collingwood. PRICE: $230 per person. Expect unique wines and an unexpected menu. Together, the Sommelier, Rod Morris and Chef, Joe Grbac from Saint Crispin have thoroughly researched the wines to create an unforgettable, unconventional and seriously mouth-watering menu. Our wine expert, Bela Rice will speak about each wine, as well as provide detailed tasting notes. On arrival: French Champagne to refesh the palate: 2007 Vazaer-Coquart & Fils, Grand Bouquet Blanc de Blancs Brut Magnum (France) Course one: Salt baked heirloom ruby beetroot, pickled golden beetroot, white peppercorn Vinaigrette, compote of cranberries. Matched with: 2006 Warrenmang Black Puma Avoca Shiraz Magnum (Pyrenees, VIC) This wine has picked up a ton of awards: ‘Best of the Best’ at the Victorian Wines Federation Square Wine Showcase Awards. 92 points, Halliday. 2009 Bronze medal – Winewise Small Vignerons Awards. 2010 ‘Best of Victoria for 2009’ – Winestate Annual. 2009 Silver medal – Boutique Wines of Australia Awards. 2010 90/100 – Australian Wine Vintages. 2009 Kooky Village "Nutter" Shiraz (Barossa Valley, SA) A hidden gem regularly enjoyed by renowned winemaker, Chris Ringland. Course two: Bannockburn chicken in the style of coq au vin, shallots, spring roll, carrot bolognaise. Matched with: 2007 Turners Crossing ‘The Cut’ Shiraz (Bendigo, VIC) Awarded 94 points by Halliday. 2007 David Franz Alternative View “Pirate Strength” Shiraz (Barossa Valley, SA) Made by David Franz Lehmann (son of the great Peter Lehmann). Course three: Grilled loin of kangaroo, chili con carne, charred red peppers and cornbread. Matched with: 2006 Wild Duck Creek Springflat Shiraz Magnum (Heathcote, VIC) Awarded 95 points by world-renowned wine critic, Robert Parker. (Wild Duck Creek has a huge cult following.) 2010 Noon Reserve Shiraz (McLaren Vale, SA) Awarded 97+ points by world-renowned wine critic, Robert Parker. (There’s a seven year wait to join the Noon Winery mailing list.) Important: Please don’t drive. You’ll be poured seven glasses each with 75ml pours, which is a total of 525ml or 5.25 standard drinks. If you drink everything that is poured for you, you will be over 0.05% and over the limit.
